ALASKA
A Wall Sculpture
87" X 42" X 7"
Basswood, Aluminum Leaf, Shell Inlay
I did the preliminary drawings for this sculpture a few summers ago while on
a seven-day kayaking adventure with my brother in the wilds of Alaska. We were
constantly surrounded by water. We floated on still water that shifted colors
as the depths changed. We were rained on. We paddled amongst glacial icebergs
that radiated a soft blue light. The waterfalls, creating sound in an otherwise
quiet terrain, entranced my senses. This sculpture captures the memory of my
incredible experience in Alaska.
The mirror is on a pivot. The inset shows the piece with the mirror concealed.
